About: The Grinds Link

The Grinds Link is a student-led platform that connects secondary school students with experienced college mentors for accessible, relatable, and effective grinds. Unlike traditional tutoring models, our approach is rooted in the idea that students learn best from those just ahead of them on the academic journey.

Research supports this: learning is most effective when guided by someone slightly more advanced — a principle known as Vygotsky's Zone of Proximal Development. Studies have shown that secondary students mentored by college students report increased confidence, academic motivation, and engagement, particularly in STEM fields (Rees-Elwyn et al., 2020; Karcher, 2009).

At The Grinds Link, we believe in the power of near-peer learning to break down academic barriers and build meaningful educational connections.
